Once upon a time, it was midnight and I was asleep. My dog was barking and woke up. I saw flashing lights outside my window. I snuck downstairs and took the leash off the wall and attached it to my dog. I walked outside and saw a huge thing with flashing lights. It looked like a flying saucer. And then I remembered that every time I heard my parents talking about flying saucers, they said they didn’t exist. But I just saw one! Then I had to duck because it shot a bullet at my house behind me. Then it shot bullets in all directions! Every minute I had to duck. I ran home and called the police. I saw the police coming and they got into the flying saucer. Then the police marched out carrying storm-troopers on their back. The police killed the storm troopers at the police station. I realized that it wasn’t a flying saucer, it was a huge spaceship. The police came back and took the spaceship away. The end.

Week 28 – Imagination Writing
I do not like blue chilli.
I think it looks silly.
I will not eat it with some tea.
I will not eat it with a bee.
I will not eat it with a cook.
I will not eat it on a book.
“Try it! Try it!” says Nathan.
I like it so much, I will not blame him!
Week 24 – Imagination
Gabriel McKnight lives in the Middle Ages. Every time when they were trying to get a castle they fire the catapult because they are trying to get the castle for themselves. The catapult is for firing stuff over the castle walls. Things like stones.
“When I first invented the catapult I used it for making holes in the castle walls so my army could get through. We killed some of their army and made the rest prisoners. Then we repaired the walls and started living in the castle. When another army came, we fired our own catapult over the walls toward the other army to kill them. It was good until the other armies invented the canon so they could shoot down the walls and get in. They could also dig trenches under the walls so the walls would fall down. They also made siege towers so they could get in the castle. Very soon, the other armies using their weapons got into the castle. I, Gabriel McKnight, got away with nine soldiers.”
The End.
Week 23 – Narration
David and Goliath
Once when the Philistines wanted to take over Israel, before they started attacking, the Israelites and Philistines were camped on two mountains with a valley in between. Then the Philistines sent down one of their men who was a giant. His name was Goliath. Then Goliath said “whoever kills me we will be your slaves, but if I kill one of you, you will be our slaves.” No one wanted to fight against Goliath because he was so big. But David the shepherd wanted to fight against Goliath.
Then when the king tried to put armour on David the armour was too big. When David went into battle the giant laughed at him. Then when David took out his sling he shot with his sling and hit Goliath in the forehead. The rock went into him and hit is brain. Goliath died. When Goliath was dead all the other Philistines ran away.
the End.
Week 21 – Dialog
“Yesterday was the strangest day!” said Nathan.
“Why was it so strange?” asked Gabe.
“Because I heard a rat say that he could kill a cat!”
“I don’t think a rat can kill a cat.”
“Maybe he can?”
“And I don’t think a rat can talk.”
“Well that’s why it was a strange day!”
Week 21 – Journal
Week 19 – Story Starters
Once upon a time, a girl named Jessie lived in a big city near the ocean. Everyone in the city except her was busy. And because she had nothing to do, she snuck out of her apartment and went out. She walked and walked until she got to the ocean. Jessie began playing in the sand and watching geese in the water. When she wanted to lay down, she lay down and looked up and saw a huge bird in the sky. The bird came swooping down and picked Jessie up. She wasn’t bored anymore, now she was having fun. The bird kept flying in circles over the city. As she flew on the bird she could see almost the whole city. Then, the bird flew farther and farther away from the city until Jessie couldn’t see the city. Then, it started flying in circles again and the little girl was never seen again. The end.
Week 18 – Synthesis
We did a bean experiment! We did it by putting a paper towel in a pasta jar that was washed and had no pasta left in it. We put water in the jar, and then we put beans in between the paper towel and the jar. The beans stayed up because they were squished against the jar by the paper towel. We waited a long time, I don’t know how many days, maybe four or five days. After those days we saw roots growing down from the beans and a little shoot growing up. Even when we tilt the jar, the roots still go down to get the water. So I learned from it that shoots grow up and roots grow down.
Week 17 – Race Notes
Once upon a time, Daddy and Gabe were going to a race track made of ice. When they got there they saw that it was a very long track. They put their skates on. The ice was very slippery because it had no snow on it. When they tried going on it they slipped a lot. They saw a sign that said “Big Race Today” then Gabe said, “Can we race, please, in the race that’s going to happen today?”
Then Don came. He said, “Whoever is going to have a race on the race track today, stay here, it will start soon.” When everyone was ready, Don said, “Ready… Set… Go!” And everyone began skating and slipping. When they got better at skating on the slippery ice they were all going really fast.
Daddy jumped on the ice to have fun. He jumped so high that he went over the walls of race track. He was trying to find a way back in while I kept on going to the finish line. When Daddy finally got over the walls I was already at the finish line.
Daddy was so impressed that I won. The end.
Week 15 – The Perfect Pet
I would love a cat that is red and black and very playful. If we had any mice, we wouldn’t have to put down mouse traps because the cat would get the mice instead. He wouldn’t just be playful, he’d also be snuggly and furry. I would like it if he snuggled with me in bed before I went to sleep. I would feel really comfortable and I think I would have happy dreams.
