Week 30 – Synthesis

Dolphins are my favourite sea animal. When the mama has a baby she pushes it up to the top of the water so it can breathe. This is how it learns to breathe. Dolphins don’t have gills like fish, so they need to go the surface to breathe. Next, they teach their babies how to find food. Dolphins stay together as a family and take care of each other as a family. If one of the dolphins gets sick, the other dolphins in the family help to take care of it. I love how dolphin families act like people families!

Week 25 – Describe

Sushi is my favourite food. it is made out of fresh raw salmon, very sticky sushi rice, and crispy green seaweed. It may sound bad but is very good. And when you dip it in the black salty soy sauce it tastes even better. It’s made in the little rolls. So I hope you can see if yourself why it is my favourite food.

Week 24 – Persuade

Mom, may I please have Sushi? It’s all the children’s favourite food. I will help make it and clean up. Sushi is very healthy and will help us grow stronger and stronger. With sushi we will always eat it quickly and there will be no leftovers to put in the fridge.
If we get sushi I’ll be thankful and sweet and do all my school work without complaining (especially my copy work). I know both you and daddy like it and I will do all the dishes.
Sushi is very good! Please can we have sushi!

Week 23 – Narration

Once upon a time there was a girl named Birdie. She lived in Florida. She was 10 years old. One day she was playing with some neighbor children, Essie and Zephy, and her little brother, Bunny. They had made little doll houses in the woods and ran off to go play there. Just then, Birdie’s dad came and asked her to paint the house white. So she went to go paint. Pa left to go work with her older brother. She painted for a bit, then she smelled smoke. She went to go see what it was. She saw that it was a grass fire right near her house! Her ma told her to get wet sacks and so she went and did as her mother told her. One of her sisters went to go get a bucket of water. When she came back, her mother told her to go ask their neighbors, the Slaters, for help. The Slater boys said they would be over soon, but they did not mean it. They did not want to help. Their Pa had started the fire! She went back home. Pa and her brother came back and helped put out the fire. Birdie remembered that the little children were playing in the woods. She told her Pa, and they both ran to the woods. They found the children, crying and very scared, but they got them out safely. They cleaned up the children and sent them back home. Birdie was glad that the children and their house were safe.

Week 19 – Story Starter

Once upon a time there was a girl named Emmalyn who wanted to go to Edmonton to see her grandparents, but her family left without her! It was just an accident, but she hoped her family would notice she was gone and come back to get her! Unfortunately, they did not notice.

Emmalyn waited and waited and waited. She thought, “If only someone could take me there.”

She noticed a goose nearby and the goose understood that Emmalyn wanted to go to Edmonton. So the goose said, “Hop on my back and I will take you to Edmonton!”

So Emmalyn hopped on the goose’ back and it only took two hours to get to Edmonton. When Emmalyn’s family saw her they said, “Emmalyn, why are you outside? We’ve been looking for you!” Emmalyn opened the door and told them about her journey.

Week 17 – The Big Race

Zach and Josiah were in Kenya when they spotted two elephants! Josiah started running toward the elephants, and Zach followed. Each of them killed one of the elephants by using the guns that they had brought with them from Calgary.

Josiah said, “Let’s see who can eat their elephant the fastest.”

Zach said, “OK, let’s do it!”

Josiah and Zach started eating. They ate and they ate and they ate! Zach began to get full and started slowing down. Josiah had already finished half of his elephant but Zach had only eaten a quarter of his elephant. But they continued on and each ate another quarter. Then Zach ate another quarter and looked at Josiah’s elephant. Josiah was already done!

Zach said to Josiah, “you win.”

Josiah said, “Thank you!”

Zach still finished his elephant. Then they both went to find a drink of water and a place to rest after such a big race.

The end.

Week 15 – My Perfect Pet

My perfect pet is a black cat! This cat would have lots of energy to chase me as I run with its toys. It would help around the house by catching rats and mice. And it would clean off our plates. We would just have to wash off the slobber. This cat would be fun and a helper. We would have to make a cat bed and it would sleep beside me. I would name her Emma.

But Mommy and Daddy won’t let us get any pets! If only I could convince them!

Week 14 – Personification

Once there was a butterfly named Elizabeth. She was ready to come out of her chrysalis, but she didn’t want to! It was cozy and warm in there, and she didn’t want to come out where it was cold.

“It’s dark in here. And I’m starting to get bored,” thought Elizabeth.

She started to push her way out of her chrysalis. Soon she felt a tickle on her back. It was her wings! She started to flap them and when she looked down she saw that she was very high above the ground. Elizabeth was very happy that she was out of her chrysalis. And it wasn’t even cold out.

Week 8 -Story Starter

So at night time she snuck out of bed and quietly opened the door and went down the stairs and went outside. It was dark and cold outside. She wanted to get a blanket, but Mom and Dad would hear. So she went to the dark forest without a blanket. When she was in the middle of the woods she heard a sound. She went closer and closer to the sound. It was a deer sitting alone behind a tree. It had gotten lost from its parents. She wanted to help it find its parents but as soon as she came close to it it got scared and ran away. She ran after it and when she got close enough, the deer did not run away. When she did not harm it, it did not run away. She put a collar on the deer and trailed grass behind her to make the deer follow her home. She named the deer Emmalyn and took care of the deer herself. The end.
