Week 35 – A New Locale

OUR TRIP TO LEGOLAND

“Breakfast!” Mom called. After a thorough stretch and maybe one little groan, I rolled out of bed and discovered, to my delight, that breakfast was candy lego bricks! Then our house turned into lego, and I noticed the whole city was made of lego! We were in Legoland

I began to get pretty sick of lego candy for breakfast, lunch and dinner, one, because lego candy is almost pure sugar and, two, our mother began to worry about malnutrition. So, to forget about it, we explored the amusement park. We made ourselves comfortable on the roller coasters. We built tons of lego creations, including lego mindstorm. And, we enjoyed the lego water park aka splash pad.

But, I began to get tired of lego and after two months we decided we had had enough. We all worked together to move our house out. We coud lift our house because it was made of lego, not wood, bricks and mortar. But, as soon as we got out of Legoland, our huse became normal and we had to drop it. But where were we now? …

Week 34 – Book Review

Carry-on Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham was copyrighted in 1995 . It is an exciting biography of Nathaniel Bowditch and I love how Nat learns to navigate during nine years of being indentured . He learns French, Latin, algebra, trigonometry, navigation and surveying all on his own just by reading books. He earned a master of arts degree from Harvard without even going there. This book made me feel like I need to learn more. He discovered more things for navigation, easier ways to navigate and find longitude and latitude. They made a record for their type of ship for going through Sunda Strait. This was all because of his math and navigation. Even when he was young he was a math whiz and after I read the book I was doing my math fast too! It’ll make you want to learn more if you read it and that is a good thing. He is a great example to follow and his learning adventures will inspire you to learn more.

Week 29 – Human Interest

John Colter: Youngest Explorer of the Lewis and Clark Expedition

John Colter was 16 when the Lewis and Clark expedition set out. He stayed and hunted beaver and other animals in the Rocky Mountains for four years after the expedition. He was eventually caught by the fierce Blackfeet Indians. The Blackfeet hated Lewis and Clark. He knew the Blackfeet language and told the chief that he was with Lewis and Clark and because of that he should be able to fight the braves of the Blackfeet. They stripped him naked and told him to run and the Blackfeet braves began to chase after him. He out ran all but one of them. Then he suddenly stopped and the Blackfeet warrior stumbled and dropped his spear. Colter picked it up and killed him. Then he ran for his life. He jumped into the icy cold Jefferson River, and hid under some floating logs for a day and a night! Seven days later Colter crawled into st. Lisa’s fort. He survived to trap more Beaver and more animals.

Week 29 – Take a Stand

Why Buy Worthless Wilderness?

Why should we buy this worthless wilderness? Has Jefferson gone mad? We are already much bigger than most countries. Why more than double our size? This land probably does not have good soil and there are fierce Indians living on it! If we try to settle there we will be driven right back! And why waste lives just fighting Indians on worthless wilderness? I certainly wouldn’t move there and you shouldn’t either.

Week 29 – Newspaper Review

Expedition to Oregon

Captain Lewis and Captain Clark brave the great mountains and Indian tribes

In May 14, 1804,Captain Meriwether Lewis, Private secretary to the president , and Captain William Clark set out to cross Louisiana and find the mouth of the great river Oregon. They had very little supplies and not much money to buy rations and medicines. They crossed the great plains and the shining mountains three times as high as their Appalachians ! They returned on September 23, 1806. They have mapped out the Oregon country and the Louisiana territory. They started From St. Louis and followed the Missouri River to the three Forks where it splits into the Gallatin, the Madison, and the Jefferson. He followed the Jefferson to its source in Lemhi pass then he started to follow the Lemhi river to Salmon River then he followed salmon river to the Clearwater which became the snake which became the Columbia. In Portland some people wanted to turn back. But Lewis kept them going. They built fort Clatsop and spent Christmas there.Unfortunately they missed a Boat by only 19 days. And so instead they travelled over the mountains all over again and through the planes and down the river and back to St. Louis. It is the 1st time ever to cross the continent.

Week 28 – Rest for the Weary

Do you need a break? Let’s discuss the pros and cons of a break. For kids it means more play time! We also get to rest and on Sunday we hear God’s word. But we have to stop projects like painting for Sunday. Breaks during our school week mean sometimes we have to do extra school the day before. But there are much more pros than cons! I love summer break. Last year, we went to Invermere! And sometimes Mommy plans surprise trips to Calaway Park! It is very fun to have breaks like Christmas, New Year’s and spring break. Now let’s discuss my family’s break schedule. First day of the week we have Sunday as a break to hear God’s word. And on Saturday we also take a weekly break. And sometimes we take breaks in between. All together considering every pro and every con, I think breaks are very nice.

Week 23 – Imagination Work Out.- “Witness to the Atom Bomb 🇯🇵V.S. 🇺🇸”

It landed in the middle of town with a huge bang!
The bomb blew up with a mushroom shaped cloud of gas, ashes and flame. It had been a quiet normal day when it began , luckily we were at the zoo which has, or I should say had it’s own bomb shelter .But now people were vaporized on the street , not even an ash of them left. Our whole city was being destroyed and devastated and our whole house and life were ruined. The bomb shook our shelter and we were thrown wildly about. Then a piece of shrapnel hit my head:thwack, dead.

Week 9 – The Raft

It was quiet, except for the noise of the paddle in the water. A few minutes ago we (my friends,James,Pety Peter,John, Jillian Gillian and me,Bryan I am 15) had been in a plane from Edmonton to mexiko mexico . James, who is 12 years old, was reciting the Greek alphabet for us “α,β,γ,δ,ε …”when the plane spun out out of control! By the time we got the plane under control the nose of the plane was beginning to dive and we crashed!5 days after the crash  Peter(14 yrs) got his knife out and built us a raft . Us boys had to un-sew our shirts and Gillian had to un-sew her shirt sleeves to make ropes for the raft. Then we went looking for the pilot ,Mary, we found her holding onto some driftwood in the river. As we rescued her Jon John spied a plane high over the ruined mill.It saw us and we were rescued.
