Week 11 – The Cat Book

Once there was a cat named Emily. She wanted to play with her boat at the beach. She brought her bucket to the beach and made a sand castle with a moat around it. She was excited.

She noticed that there were rocks and grass in the moat, but the water was missing from the moat. She needs water to play with her boat in the moat.

She grabbed her bucket.

She ran to the water and filled her bucket up with water.

She ran back with her bucket as fast as she could.

Uh-oh! She tripped on an umbrella that was left there by another family of cats and the bucket went up in the air…

…and then down on her head. The water spilled out. She doesn’t have any water left for her boat so she was sad.

She went back to the water and filled her bucket up again and then she slowly went back and this time she stepped over the umbrella. She went back to her boat and put it in the bucket and then she was happy to play with her boat.

Week 6 – The Day I Was Two Inches Tall

One day I woke up. I found out I was two inches tall because my Casper was way bigger than me! My pillow was as big as the rug downstairs in the family room where our whiteboard and coffee table is and where we do school.

We were going to go for a picnic. Mom was packing a picnic basket with no cover over it. She went upstairs to find me. Mom looked like a giant. She spoke in a loud, low voice. She said, “Emily.” She could see me and she realized that I was two inches tall. I was trying to carry my Casper but I couldn’t.

Mom picked me up and carried me carefully downstairs. She put me in her pocket and then picked me out and put me in the picnic  basket. We went to the river and Mom put the basket in the river. Another mom was watching her put it in and she stayed there until the basket was there. She picked it up, and took me home and told her daughter that she found a new baby.

Week 5 – How Do You Do That?

How to ride a bike.

First, get your bike and helmet out of the shed. Always make sure you put on your helmet so you don’t hurt your head if you fall off your bike. Bring your bike to the bike path and sit on your bike seat, with one foot on each side. Then start pedalling. Pedalling is putting your feet round and round on the pedals. Your push the pedals, but don’t twist your feet. Pedal backwards to stop the bike.

Week 4 – Story Elaboration

Original story: Luke swam. Luke won.

Luke was a driving a race car and another person was driving a race car. But Luke went faster and then he won. Then Luke went swimming to have a race in his pool. That pool was a very, very big pool. Luke was racing with his brother and his sister. His sister was the youngest. The brother was named Nathan and the sister was named Emily. The Mom said, “You better put on your bathing suits.” And they did put on their bathing suits. Then they took off their bathing suits and went into the pool with their shirts and pants and the other one with her dress. Then another girl went inside and told Mama that the boys took off their bathing suits. Luke said that the race is going to happen in one second. The race began. The sister wins! They raced again, and then Luke won.

The end.

Week 4 – The Visitor

In the summer Alysha came to visit. And Mom bought some paint brushes and we were allowed to dip them in water and put them on a piece of paper. We painted downstairs and Alysha just watched us. I was painting a cat. And I liked my painting. And then we went to the science centre with Alysha. We played in the climbing maze. Alysha just watched and sat with Mama. Then we went outside and ate a sandwich. Alysha ate a sandwich too. Then we went home and then Alysha went back home. We waved to her but she didn’t wave back.

Week 1 – Finish the Story

Story Starter: Tim and Sally received a new sled for Christmas one year. They waited and waited for the snow to fall so they could use it. Just before they went to bed one night, they saw snowflakes fall. When they got up the next morning, snow had fallen on everything. They got on their warm clothes and…

… jumped outside. They heard a squirrel that was cold. Then they saw a skunk so they ran back inside. And when the skunk passed they went back outside and climbed up a big hill with the sled. Then they rode down on the sled together and they crashed into the fence. They were crying and went back home and had hot coco. Their mom said, “You better not go outside because you might crash and hurt yourself.” And the boy and girl said, “We wanted to play with our new sled.” Then they went back to bed and said, “Let’s see if the snow is still out next morning.” If the snow is out then they will go and play with the sled. And if they get hurt they will have hot coco.
