Week 19 – Travel Journal

When I went to China, I saw pandas, and I ate shrimp. The shrimp was so delicious. I saw the emperor go and move around on a mat attached to four poles carried by four men. The emperor was wearing a beautiful yellow robe and a little special hat that matched his robe. I danced, I went to parties, feasts, and festivals. And when I walked by the food shop I smelled appetizing smells, and my mouth watered. I took a break from my walk and got some food.   I ate shrimp, eels, and I drank tea.  When I continued on my walk, I heard tons of people talking in Chinese, and I learned some Chinese myself!

Week 19 – Story Starter

Once upon a time there was a girl named Emmalyn who wanted to go to Edmonton to see her grandparents, but her family left without her! It was just an accident, but she hoped her family would notice she was gone and come back to get her! Unfortunately, they did not notice.

Emmalyn waited and waited and waited. She thought, “If only someone could take me there.”

She noticed a goose nearby and the goose understood that Emmalyn wanted to go to Edmonton. So the goose said, “Hop on my back and I will take you to Edmonton!”

So Emmalyn hopped on the goose’ back and it only took two hours to get to Edmonton. When Emmalyn’s family saw her they said, “Emmalyn, why are you outside? We’ve been looking for you!” Emmalyn opened the door and told them about her journey.

The end.

Week 17 – The Big Race

Zach and Josiah were in Kenya when they spotted two elephants! Josiah started running toward the elephants, and Zach followed. Each of them killed one of the elephants by using the guns that they had brought with them from Calgary.

Josiah said, “Let’s see who can eat their elephant the fastest.”

Zach said, “OK, let’s do it!”

Josiah and Zach started eating. They ate and they ate and they ate! Zach began to get full and started slowing down. Josiah had already finished half of his elephant but Zach had only eaten a quarter of his elephant. But they continued on and each ate another quarter. Then Zach ate another quarter and looked at Josiah’s elephant. Josiah was already done!

Zach said to Josiah, “you win.”

Josiah said, “Thank you!”

Zach still finished his elephant. Then they both went to find a drink of water and a place to rest after such a big race.

The end.

Week 15 – My Perfect Pet

My perfect pet is a black cat! This cat would have lots of energy to chase me as I run with its toys. It would help around the house by catching rats and mice. And it would clean off our plates. We would just have to wash off the slobber. This cat would be fun and a helper. We would have to make a cat bed and it would sleep beside me. I would name her Emma.

But Mommy and Daddy won’t let us get any pets! If only I could convince them!

Week 14 – Personification

Once there was a butterfly named Elizabeth. She was ready to come out of her chrysalis, but she didn’t want to! It was cozy and warm in there, and she didn’t want to come out where it was cold.

“It’s dark in here. And I’m starting to get bored,” thought Elizabeth.

She started to push her way out of her chrysalis. Soon she felt a tickle on her back. It was her wings! She started to flap them and when she looked down she saw that she was very high above the ground. Elizabeth was very happy that she was out of her chrysalis. And it wasn’t even cold out.

Week 8 -Story Starter

Once upon a time there was girl named Emma who wanted to go into the forest because there were lots of animals there. So at night time she snuck out of bed and quietly opened the door and went down the stairs and went outside. It was dark and cold outside. She wanted to get a blanket, but Mom and Dad would hear. So she went to the dark forest without a blanket. When she was in the middle of the woods she heard a sound. She went closer and closer to the sound. It was a deer sitting alone behind a tree. It had gotten lost from its parents. She wanted to help it find its parents but as soon as she came close to it it got scared and ran away. She ran after it and when she got close enough, the deer did not run away. When she did not harm it, it did not run away. She put a collar on the deer and trailed grass behind her to make the deer follow her home. She named the deer Emmalyn and took care of the deer herself. The end.

Week 2 – Definition Essay

Courage is fearlessness, or acting in spite of fear. The soldiers on D-Day were courageous, charging a bloody beach with men, friends, brothers, fathers, falling all around them, bullets whizzing past, machine guns tearing into people with no cover to hide themselves. Courage has always been honoured and is one of the greatest qualities a person can have.

Courage is standing up to danger, facing fear and strife without backing down, doing what you know is right when all odds are against you. It’s being brave, noble, Honorable, doing what you should and have to. Following your conscience in the face of death. It’s determination to do what’s good and just no matter what. That is courage. That is honorable. That is what to strive for.

Josiah Klaassen is courageous. He joined the PPCLI, Canada’s infantry Battalion and will soon be going to Iraq to fight for people he doesn’t know. That takes courage. That standing up for what is right in the face of danger or even death. He knows he might not come back. But he’s still going.

Courage means different things to different people including the dictionary. The dictionary says courage is acting in spite of fear. I agree. But I take it farther, courage is acting in spite of fear to do what’s right it’s not courageous if, in spite of fear of the law, you murder someone. That is evil and courage is noble. So strive for courage, strive for honour , strive for what is good and right.

Week 2 – A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Once upon a time, a boy named Nathan and his dog were walking by the construction site. Suddenly, the dog leapt into a bucket. Nathan had to follow the dog and so he did .

The dog would not come out. Then the bucket started going and started to move forward. “What was going on?” exclaimed Nathan. They were going up and up and up. Soon the bucket was being dumped into a dump truck, and they were taken off to the dump, to be dumped in the dump. “Oh No!” shouted Nathan. “We’re going to get dumped in the dump.” The dog had fallen asleep and now had woken up because of Nathan’s shout. The dog was scared, for they were up high, very high.

And the dump truck had already reached the dump and they had gotten dumped out into a pile of garbage. “Yuck! This stinks!” yelled Nathan. “We’ve got to get home before mom gets worried.” And they brushed themselves off and went home. Nathan told mom the whole story and she was glad he was safe. She told him never to go to the construction site again and sent him to have a nap with his dog.

The End
