Week 21 – Story Elaboration

Bill climbed a hill. He saw a city below.

Bill climbed a hill by pulling on a string tied to a branch because the hill was a very steep hill. He climbed up when no one was looking. It took him just a short time to climb the hill because he used his string.

When he came to the top of the hill, he saw a city with a big sandbox in the middle with lots of children. There were two cities beside it with children running and some of them were playing leap-frog. This made one big, big, big city that was full of kids.

Week 21 – Read-Aloud Summary

Are You My Mother?

A mother bird sat on her egg, and her egg jumped. She thought the egg would hatch today and she also thought the bird would want to eat. So off she flew. The egg jumped, and jumped, and jumped, and jumped. And then, out came a baby bird. And he said, “Where is my mother? I must find her.”

He closed his eyes and walked with his eyes closed and then, down, down, down, he fell. He walked right past his mother and didn’t notice her but soon he came to a cat, then a hen, then a dog, then a cow. And they all said, “I’m not your mother.” He called to a car, a boat, a bulldozer, but they were not his mother. The bulldozer dropped him right in his nest and soon his mother came. His mother said, “Do you know who I am?” He said, “Yes, I know who you are, you’re not a cat, or a hen, or a dog, or a cow, or a car, or a boat, or a bulldozer, you are a bird and you are my mother!”

Week 21 – Garage Discovery

I dedicate this story to Dad, for the stories he tells.

Once there was a good and adventurous teen who was bored. He went to the garage of the old, deserted house of Redbeard the pirate. He found a secret door to a spooky room with a twisted stair. He ran forward to explore. All of a sudden the floor separated under his feet and he found himself in a dungeon with the bugs and the rats. He was a black belt in karate so he kicked out the barred window and jumped out. He ran under a table, through a window and toward a cliff with a ledge on the other side. He saw a rope by witch he could swing across the space. He began to think, was it safe? He ran forward and began to swing but it pulled down a staircase and he wondered, where should he go. The cliff or up the staircase ? He decided to go up the stairs. He got to the top of the staircase and found a room filled with gold, gold coins and bricks, gold rods and staffs even gold swords and spears ! When he finally finished stuffing his pockets with gold coins and grabbed a gold sword and shield, one question remained: how would he get back to the garage? He had fallen in! He ran back to the dungeon when all of a sudden he had an idea. He ran back to the staircase and used the sword to cut off the rope and ran back to the dungeon with it. Using the rope as a lasso he got it caught on the door knob. He climbed the rope and ran out the door to his own house.

Week 20 – Story Narration

The Bears’ Picnic

Father Bear says, “Mother Bear, put your apron away. We are going to go on a picnic today.”  So Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Little Bear go out to look for a picnic spot. The first spot was next to a train track and when they put down their things the smoke went on them so went to another spot. That spot was no good because there was too many people and when they left people kept hitting them with their food that they were throwing away. So they went across the river on a raft and they went to a spot that looked nice. Papa Bear said, “Lay out the picnic things, my dear!” But then all the garbage fell on them so they had to leave. The next spot was too high and a noisy jet flew over them. The next spot was on a cliff, and it started to rain and so Papa Bear went into a cave and Papa said, “It’s dry in here. And warm, too.” Mama Bear and Little Bear left the cave. Then lighting hit the cave and made it blast open. Mother Bear said, “It looks much much too warm for me!”  Papa Bear came running down and followed them and said, “I have the best picnic, you’ll see!” And he followed them all the way home, up the front steps, and into their house and said, “This is the kind of place I mean!”  And they had their picnic at home. The end.

Week 19 – Story Starter

Once upon a time I didn’t know that I was soaring in air. I thought I was flying but I don’t have wings. So how could I be up in the air if I don’t have wings? I would just fall down. But that wouldn’t be true. So I looked down and I saw that I was on bird skin. I looked down from the bird and I saw Emily riding on her bike and I called down, “EMILY!” And Emily heard me and looked up. Emily said, “How did you get up there Abigail? Can I come up too?”
“How will you get up?” called Abigail.
Emily said, “I don’t know. Maybe the bird will come down and I will get on. Do you know how to steer the bird?” asked Emily.
Abigail said, “No. How will I get the bird down?”

Abigail also saw Gabe riding on his bike. Emily stopped her bike, put it on the grass, and called Gabe and said, “Look up Gabe! Look up Gabe!”
Then Gabe looked up and saw Abigail in the sky and Gabe scratched his head. “Emily,” he said, “How did she get up there?”
“I don’t know” said Emily.

Then Abigail had an idea. “I know,” said Abigail. “How ’bout I tell the bird to come down!”
“How will you do that?” asked Emily. “The bird doesn’t know what you are saying.”
“Well then,” said Abigail, “I will yell really loud and call Mommy and Daddy.”

When Mommy and Daddy came they said, “Abigail, how are you going to get down?”
“I don’t know” said Abigail.
Daddy said, “Maybe we can grab long ladder, climb up that ladder, grab Abigail, climb down that ladder, and have Abigail again.”

Daddy’s plan did work and they got Abigail back and they hugged Abigail and ran home.
“Don’t forget the ladder!” said Mommy to Daddy.
And Daddy said, “OK.” And he grabbed the ladder and went home.

They all lived happily ever after.
The End.

Week 17 – Race Notes

One day, Abigail was so excited she went down and told Mommy, “Can we go to a race today?”

Mommy said, “Yes!”

Abigail said, “Mommy, can all the kids go?”

“Of course,” Mommy said.

Then, Abigail ran upstairs to tell Gabe and the others. Then they drove off to the race. The race was so exciting! It was exciting because it was a running race between Abigail and Gabe. As they ran, Gabe tripped over a stone and Abigail kept on running. Then Gabe got up and started running but before he started to run, Abigail already ran passed the finish line. Then Gabe was sad that Abigail won and he saw her holding the trophy and people surrounding her taking pictures and cheering. Then Abigail ran to Mommy, “Mommy! Mommy!” cried Abigail. “I have won the race!”

“Where’s Gabe?” asked Mom.

“I think he’s still running around the track to see if he can win too.”

The End.
