Jonah was a prophet, and God wanted him to go to Ninevah to preach that in 40 days Ninevah would be overthrown if they didn’t repent. But instead, Jonah ran away and caught a ship bound for Tarshish. There came a mighty storm and wind and the sailors were afraid, but Jonah was sleeping. They tossed out the ship’s cargo to lighten the load. The sailors called out to their gods, but their gods did nothing because they weren’t real. The captain of the ship went down to Jonah and said, “Wake up, sleeper, and call on your god, and maybe he will save us.” They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. And Jonah told them that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, who made earth and everybody. They asked Jonah what they should do so that the sea would quiet down, and Jonah said to toss him into the sea. The sailors didn’t want to, but they did anyway, and the storm immediately quieted down. God prepared a big fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of that fish for three days and nights. Jonah prayed to the Lord God and God spoke to the fish and the fish spat Jonah out onto dry land. God told Jonah to preach the message to Ninevah. This time, Jonah obeyed. Amazingly, the Ninevites believed God and repented! Jonah sat on the hill, overlooking the great city and he knew that God would no longer destroy Ninevah, but he wasn’t happy because he wanted the Ninevites to receive judgement. But God did indeed show them mercy. And now it was very hot and Jonah thought he might die. And God grew a plant to shelter Jonah and Jonah was very glad for the plant. The next day, god prepared a worm that damaged the plant so that it withered, and Jonah was angry about the plant, and God asked him why. Jonah learned that God was a merciful God.
Week 10 – When I Grow Up
When I grow up, I want to be a Carpenter and a Construction Worker because I want two jobs like Daddy, who is a Preacher and a Fixer (he fixes stuff). I want to be a Carpenter because I like to saw and bang stuff. I want to be a Construction Worker because I like driving bob cats and seeing the dirt go up. I really like to make things, especially T-Rexes.
Week 21 – Journal (The New House)
Week 7 – Tiger Gets Stuck (Fable Narration)
(from the Lion Storyteller Book)
One day, Rabbit went out of his hidey-hole. Then Tiger came by and went into Rabbit’s hidey-hole so that when Rabbit came back he would gobble him up! Rabbit came home and saw a tail sticking out of his hidey-hole. Rabbit said “Hey, hidey-hole! Are you doing good, hidey-hole?” Tiger tried to get out, but he couldn’t because he was really big and he was stuck. Alligator helped Tiger and pulled him out.
Week 6 – The Day I Was Two Inches Tall
One morning I tried to get out of bed, but couldn’t because I was only 2 inches tall (it would have been a big fall). So I pushed my pillow down to make a ramp and slid down. I looked around at everything and I thought that they were big giant monsters and I kept running away because I was afraid they might eat me. Every day I grew a little bit until I was really big and I realized that they weren’t big giant monsters. Now I don’t need to use my pillow as a ramp to get out of bed anymore, I just step down.
Week 20 – Nursery Rhyme Poem
(to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb)
Nathan had a puppy dog
who liked to eat his shoes.
And every time he ate his shoes
it gave him the blues.
Week 20 – Meg’s Favourite Foods (Poem)
My name is Meg
I love to eat poached eggs
I also love tofu
Especially when it’s new
My favourite food is broccoli
Nobody likes it but me!
Week 19 – Flying Over Town
Once upon a time there was a girl and she sky-dived from a plane and landed on something while she was still in the air. She tried to figure out what she had landed on, and after two looks, she figured it out that it was a goose! She looked down and was saw that she was flying over town. She was a little bit scared because she was so high and she had nothing to hold onto so she was afraid she might fall. She looked at the wings and they gave her an idea. She stretched her arms sidewards and caught hold of the wings. It was kinda hard because she had to put her arms up when the bird flapped its wings up, and down when the bird flapped its wings down, and that was pretty hard to do. Once she held the wings, she was no longer scared. She had a pretty great view of all the skyscrapers, houses and tall buildings. When the bird landed, she got off and patted its head. The bird took a drink of water and flew up again, but she walked back home.
Week 18 – The Bean Jars
For our experiment, we collected kidney beans and black eyed beans, two jars, some paper towels, and some water. We rolled the paper towel into the jar and placed the beans in the jar in between the jar and the paper towel. Then, we added some water. One jar we stood up, and the other was laid on its side. We expected the roots to grow down towards the water to suck up the water, and the shoots to grow up towards the sun. And that’s what happened in both jars! We saw that roots always grow downwards towards water, and shoots always grow up towards the sun.
Week 17 – The Race
Nathan and Gabe were tied together for a three-legged race. The race was from the grass, to the Great Wall of China (it was a long race). Mommy and Daddy, Abigail and Emily were at the race. Sophia was there too, but she wasn’t really watching. She heard the sounds though, which scared her and made her cry. Nathan started running faster with one of his legs, which made them start to turn around. Gabe started to run faster too, so they ended up turning back on the path. Then, something silly happened. All of the ropes broke and all of the partners started running on their own, and it became a two-legged race! Nathan ran faster than all the others and won! Gabe came in second place. The prizes were Shepherds Pie meals, so Nathan got the biggest one, and Gabe got a smaller meal. Meals don’t last long though, so after their meals, they also got trophies.
