Week 34 – Pickles in a Pickle

A cave man’s cave goes on fire so they come to help but when they put the fire out pickles explores the cave and finds a passage and gets stuck in it.

Now, you remember Fireman Joe and Pickles from our last story, right?  Well, this story is about those same people, Pickles the Cat and Joe the Fireman.  Why don’t we start the story now.

Once upon a time, Pickles the fire cat heard the chief talking on the phone.  “I wonder what kind of trouble there is this time?” he said quietly to himself.

Joe, having overheard him, said, “The trouble is, there’s a fire down in a small clearing in the Hundred Acre Woods, in a cave man’s cave.”
Pickles asked, “What’s a cave man? What’s a cave?”
“A cave is a place is that is dug into the ground, sometimes carved by water, sometimes dug by people, cave men, for example.”
“Well then, ” said Pickles. “I’ll have to go and see for myself.” And with that, he slid down the pole to the fire trucks and hopped on.

It was a very bumpy ride to the Hundred Acre Woods.  When they got to the cave, Pickles said, “I don’t see a cave.  All I see is a big fire!”
“The fire is IN the cave,” explained Joe.
“Oh!” exclaimed Pickles.

When the fire was out, Pickles explored inside. “What a cool house!” he said out loud to himself.  “Full of sharp, cone like things on the roof, passages and hidey-holes.”  Pickles went into one of the passages.  It got narrower and narrower, and harder to squeeze through, but Pickles wanted to see what was on the other side.  But instead of getting to the other side, all he got was STUCK.

He couldn’t back out, so he called for help.  Joe heard him and got an axe from the fire truck.  He chopped carefully around Pickles, aiming carefully so that he would not hit Pickles.  Soon, the hole was wide enough for Pickles to back out, so he did.

“I’m never going into a passage again!” said Pickles.

And when they got back to the fire station, Pickles went straight to bed for he was tired from trying to back out of the hole.

The end.

Week 34 – All a Dream?

LA 2 - Week 34Once upon a time an American ship set sail for Holland.  There were 1,000 sailors, the whole Stephens family, and a couple of other people on board. It was a huge ship called the Wave Surfer.  When they were about in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, one of the sailors saw a killer whale.  He called the other sailors and they quickly planned a trap to capture the dolphin-like whale.  They Wave Surfer surfed after the killer whale and they trapped it with a rope. The whale pulled and tugged at the rope. It was only a baby, but finally it broke free.  Nathan Stephens, who was on the ship, liked the killer whale so he quickly jumped after the whale and grabbed the rope, pulled himself to the whale, and climbed on his back.  The whale was faster than the Wave Surfer and pulled him all the way to Holland.  When his parents and siblings arrived, they found Nathan waiting at the dock.  Suddenly, the place lit up, and he heard Emily shouting, “Light turned on!” and Nathan realized it was all a dream.  The end.

Week 30 – Blown Away

week30Once upon a time there was a windmill.  It was very windy and the wind blew the blades so fast that it blew the windmill off the ground. An airplane was flying by beside it in the air and it was making the air go even stronger. John (the guy in the windmill) peeked out and waved his hand at the pilot and he waved back. John wondered why he saw a pilot – “That shouldn’t be here!” John looked down and got a little bit scared when he realized they were up so high.  The wind stopped blowing so the windmill blades stopped turning so they went down really fast and John got even more scared. They hit the ground really hard and that shook the inside a lot. John was still looking out of the window so he fell out of the window head first. He died because he broke his brain. The end.

Week 28 – Book Review

A Child’s History of the World, by Virgil M. Hillyer

This is a book about history, and it’s very detailed.  You can learn about the first Punic War, Sparta, and Rome, the Parthenon, Alexander the Great, the Pharos of Alexandria, and many other things that happened a long time ago.  It’s better than all the other history books we’ve read, because the author sounds as if he were there when it all happened. It’s very exciting that way. I like it and think you will enjoy it.

Week 26 – Fairy Tale Mash-Up (St. George and Curious George)

St. George and Curious George

One day St. George was making sure no harm came to his castle or hurt his people. And then St. George saw Curious George walking by. And Curious George asked St. George was he was doing. And he told George that he was making sure no harm came to his castle. And then the man with the yellow hat came and said, “What are you doing here with St. George?” And Curious George told the man with the yellow hat that before he was playing in the backyard and then he wanted to play outside a little bit and began to go out. And he also asked the man with the yellow hat if he could stay with St. George a little bit. And the man with yellow hat said “Be a good little monkey.”

And then Curious George be a good little monkey for a little bit. Then Curious George wandered off into the woods and saw a dragon. He left bananas behind him. And the dragon got him.

Week 26 – Telling a Tale (Frog and Toad in Space)

Once upon a time, Frog and Toad were in their spaceship looking for Mr. Pigeon, the Bad Guy.  His real name was Neil Armstrong, but Frog and Toad called him Pigeon because when he went on his space walks he looked like he was flying.

Frog and Toad landed in a great big rectangle with great big walls, which was Mr. Pigeon’s home.  It had sliding doors on each side, and when they landed, the doors closed and they were trapped!  And Mr. Pigeon wasn’t even home!

“Frog!” cried Toad, “Why did you lead us into this trap? I knew I should’ve been the leader!”

“Relax,” said Frog. “I’ll get us out.” He pressed a button on the control panel and immediately the front nose of the spaceship opened up and out came a big spring with a boxing glove on the end and it punched the doors down.  Soon, those doors were floating in space and Frog and Toad were back in space, looking for Mr. Pigeon.

Finally, they found Mr. Pigeon, but Mr. Pigeon saw them and got scared and flew to another galaxy. They made a plan. They decided to make their spaceship look like one of Mr. Pigeon’s. They took giant stickers that had Mr. Pigeon’s symbol on them and put them over their own spaceship’s symbols, so they looked like one of Mr. Pigeon’s spaceships.

They travelled to the galaxy that Mr. Pigeon had gone to. Mr. Pigeon wasn’t scared this time, for they had fooled him into thinking that they were on his side. Frog used his puncher (the big spring with the boxing glove) to punch Mr. Pigeon back into the Milky Way galaxy, right into the sun.  That was the end of Mr. Pigeon, and this story.

Week 22 – Character Story (Lepogogoo and Regebook’s Life)

Once upon a time there were twins, a brother and sister, who were good. Regebook (ree gee-book) was the boy, and Lepogogoo (Lee-puh-go-goo) was the girl.  They were no ordinary kids – they had super powers because they were born from the gods.  Once, when Lepogogoo was jumping, she shot fire out of her feet and she shot straight into space like a rocket.  Regebook, when he flapped his arms to pretend to be a bird, his arms turned into bird wings and he was able to fly!

As they grew up, when they were both 19 or so, they ate a sacred cattle. The cattle belonged to the god, Zeus. After they ate the cattle, they were very, very, very bad.  So they decided to destroy the whole planet that they lived in. Lepogogoo tried shooting her fire to burn up the whole earth.  She held onto a big boulder that was half-buried in the ground so that her fire wouldn’t make her go shooting away.   Regebook had discovered a new superpower – when he banged the ground very fast with his fists it drilled up the earth – and so tried to drill up the whole earth.

But Lepogogoo’s plan didn’t work, and neither did Regebook’s. So they decided to leave the world. While they were flying into space, a very big space alien, as big as the earth itself, ate them up.  And they were never seen again.

The end.

Week 22 – When I Was Sick

One time I was very sick and I puked a lot.  Every time I went to bed, I had a puke bucket (which was an old ice cream bucket that had no ice cream in it), and some kleenex right beside me, so that I didn’t need to get out of bed when I needed to puke or blow my nose. I had some medicine to help me feel better, but not too much medicine because that would make you even more sick.  I stayed in bed for a long time while the other kids got to play. That didn’t feel good. Mommy and Daddy helped me to feel good by giving me freezies and helping me to push up the freezie when I couldn’t. When it was night time and I was really hungry Dad gave me crackers. In the morning there was one cracker left, but I puked on it. It took me three nights to get better. Every night some of the sickness went away. When it was all gone I felt much better.
