With a big piece of string you can make a sweep-the-floor-machine. This is how to make it: Tie the end of the string to the middle of the broom. Tie it really tight. Hold on to the other end of the string and pull and the broom will move.  I guess it doesn’t really help you sweep the floor, but it does make it more fun!
