Week 34 – Book Review

Carry-on Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham was copyrighted in 1995 . It is an exciting biography of Nathaniel Bowditch and I love how Nat learns to navigate during nine years of being indentured . He learns French, Latin, algebra, trigonometry, navigation and surveying all on his own just by reading books. He earned a master of arts degree from Harvard without even going there. This book made me feel like I need to learn more. He discovered more things for navigation, easier ways to navigate and find longitude and latitude. They made a record for their type of ship for going through Sunda Strait. This was all because of his math and navigation. Even when he was young he was a math whiz and after I read the book I was doing my math fast too! It’ll make you want to learn more if you read it and that is a good thing. He is a great example to follow and his learning adventures will inspire you to learn more.
